I'm Dani James, owner of Wildflowers Beauty and a qualified beauty therapist with experience in both salon work and running my own business. I wanted to introduce myself so you know my credentials when you read my beauty blog. It's crucial to verify sources for information, especially when it comes to health-related topics like beauty treatments, which impact your body and skin.
Background
I initially pursued a degree in fashion design and marketing at university, subsequently working in fashion buying for a prominent high street fashion retailer. However, following the birth of my child, who was born with a disability, my career path shifted significantly. I took a hiatus from my professional life to become a full-time caregiver. During this period, while I maintained my interest in fashion, I developed a particular fondness for getting my nails done. This activity provided a personal respite, allowing me to engage in something purely for my own enjoyment and creativity, without the usual obligations of self-maintenance. As a caregiver, my opportunities for self-care were limited, but visits to the salon offered a chance to express creativity through nail designs and engage in meaningful conversations with nail technicians. Recognizing that a return to the corporate fashion industry was unlikely due to my caregiving responsibilities, I sought a new avenue as my child became more independent. My desire to share the joy I experienced from nail care with others led me to acquire skills in this field and establish my own business in 2020.
Starting Wildflowers Beauty
I began with a one-day training course in manicures and pedicures, followed by a one-day course in gel application, and purchased products from an individual selling her nail business. I quickly realized that this level of training was insufficient. When issues arose as a mobile nail technician, I lacked the knowledge to identify or resolve them. I was concerned about establishing a negative reputation before even starting my business. It was then that I recognized the need for further training and acknowledged that mastering this craft and building a business was more challenging than I had anticipated. I pursued additional classes, watched numerous YouTube videos from expert nail technicians, practiced extensively, and read industry magazines. Subsequently, I enrolled in one-day beauty courses focused on lashes and brows, which I found truly enjoyable.
Back to college
I then decided to pursue the beauty path and subsequently invested in completing a full VTCT Level 2 and 3 in Beauty, which is equivalent to A-levels. This comprehensive beauty course included examinations in anatomy and physiology, as well as in various subjects such as health and safety, nails, lashes/brows, facials and wax treatments etc. I underwent three practical assessments for each subject. Our training involved practicing on fellow students and paying clients who visited the college. Additionally, we were required to complete modules and assignments. During this period, I continued to develop my business and began working at a beauty salon. The VTCT qualifications significantly elevated my professional standards. I have also participated in one-day training courses, which have enhanced my ability to apply the knowledge I have acquired, making career development courses beneficial for me now. I display all my qualifications in the salon, so please feel free to ask to see them if you are interested.
I am deeply committed to my work and dedicated to continuous growth in my field. To advance my expertise, I will be pursuing the VTCT Level 4 qualification in beauty aesthetics, which is equivalent to the first year of a degree. This will enable me to expand the range of treatments I offer. As the industry is increasingly tightening regulations, I aim to safeguard the training I have already completed by achieving a higher level of certification as a beauty therapist.
I am passionate about meeting new people, listening to their stories and understanding their way of life. I take pride in making them feel valued, addressing their concerns, and contributing to their well-being. Personally, I cherish the unique connection I establish with each client. Reflecting on my journey as a therapist and the growth of my practice fills me with pride. Although it has not been easy, I am committed to continuous improvement through learning and development. This blog serves as a platform to share the insights and advice I have gained, aimed at assisting my clients and followers.
